Episode 86: Leadership and Followership with Melissa Carsten

We’ll talk to Dr. Melissa Carsten, Associate Professor in the Management and Marketing Department at Winthrop University. She’ll discuss the traditional ideas around leadership, as well as the trends and theories that have changed the nature of it over the years. She’ll also talk about what it means to be a good follower, or collaborator. We’ll discuss benefits of knowing where you add value in an organization based on a goal-to-goal bassis and the danger of getting it wrong.

Melissa received her doctorate in Organizational Psychology from Claremont Graduate University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Nebraska. She’s taught courses in Organizational Behavior, Human Resources Management, and Statistics.


She’s contributed to several books on leadership / followership and various publications including The Journal of Organizational Behavior and Organizational Dynamics.
