Episode 101- Place-Based Education with Lanny Adamson

We talk to Associate Managing Director of York Preparatory Academy, Lanny Adamson. Lanny will serve as the principal of the forthcoming YPA Kettlesong Campus. He tells us about the philosophy and practices that garnered YPA the 2021 Best High School award by the US News and World Report as well as a National Blue Ribbon for being in the top 1% of schools in the United States for student growth.They’ve also received The Palmetto Gold Award and the Palmetto Silver Award. They were named a School of Distinction and added to the Advanced Placement Honor Roll. 

Lanny talks about place-based learning and how it uses the community and nature surrounding students to round out their experience. He explains how experiential education gives students a foundation in their immediate environment that also strengthens their understanding and confidence in the larger world. 

Lanny is originally from Arkansas and graduated from Utah State University with multiple degrees including a Master of Education. He taught social studies to at-risk students before joining the York Prep team in June of 2021.
